Re-evaluating Mpeg Motion Compensation Search Criteria

چکیده
As processors evolve from simple scalar machines to more advanced designs using dynamic instruction scheduling, speed critical algorithms should be reexamined to ensure that the optimal strategy is being used. One important example of this class of algorithms is MPEG encoding. Although the Mean Absolute Distance approach is recognized in the literature as more eecient in terms of speed, our research indicates that the Mean Square Error approach becomes much more attractive as instruction level parallelism increases. In a machine that can exploit a high degree of instruction level parallelism, the Mean Square Error approach yields better performance. In addition, the Mean Square Error approach achieves better compression quality than the Mean Absolute Distance method.

On the Implementation of MPEG-4 Motion Compensation Using the TMS320C62x
This application report describes the implementation of MPEG-4 motion compensation on the Texas Instruments (TI) TMS320C62x digital signal processor (DSP). MPEG-4 is a standard for coding of audiovisual information being developed by the Motion Picture Experts Group (MPEG). MPEG-4 became an International Standard in December 1998. Motion compensation is a basic component of MPEG-4 and other vi...

Abstract Our research concentrates on developing a novel HDTV content management system that enables end users to search, retrieve, and browse archived standard definition (SD) and high definition (HD) television material for program production and content repurposing in a digital television studio. We have developed the first system that automatically analyzes motion occurring in MPEG-2 coded ...
متن کاملVideo Segmentation Based on 1d-mosaics Representation
In this paper, a new method is presented for video navigation based on a hyper-scene representation of MPEG-2 compressed videos. For that purpose, each shot of the video sequence is represented using two 1-D mosaic images obtained using the MPEG-2 motion vectors. The clustering process is based on the evaluation of the similarities between 1-D mosaics. Two similarity criteria, respectively base...

متن کاملUsing Global Motion Compensation for Efficient Video Coding
A way of introducing compensation of camera caused global motion into MPEG-2 is described in this paper. A videocoding method is proposed where global motion estimation of four parameters regarding horizontal and vertical scrolling, zooming and rotation is performed and a global-motioncompensated image is produced for use as a reference frame for MPEG-2 coding. The experimental results have sho...
